Bangkok Feb 26

I woke up this morning and enjoyed free breakfast at the hostel.  I talked with the Italian guys and met a girl from Argentina.  I decided to go back to MBK mall and do a little shopping before moving locations today.  My friend, Shaun, from the US decided to come to Bangkok to travel with me through the rest of Thailand.  He arrived last night and we planned to meet up later today.

Breakfast

Getting wifi was a real pain, but Starbucks is a lifesaver with free wifi all over the world haha.  I found a starbucks and was able to communicate with my friend.

Two American stores I always look for when traveling:  McDonalds and Starbucks for free wifi and toilette's

Shaun travels a lot for work so he had a bunch of Hilton points and was able to get us both rooms at the Hilton.  Probably one of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed in.  A big change from the hostels!  I have mixed feelings about hotels.  While it's nice to have some privacy and a clean/giant shower, there's absolutely no social atmosphere and also when the room is So comfy, it's hard to leave in the mornings.  I was soooo lazy here.  Like I said, mixed feelings.  This was a great, relaxing break though.

so much space!

Still sad I never used this tub

The hotel staff showed up with a "welcome gift" of chocolate fudge omgggg

Once at the hotel, I got ready and we went out for drinks and dinner at Sky Bar.  Shaun had made reservations at another restaurant, but Sky Bar was so cool, we stayed for dinner and had probably one of the most remarkable dinners of my life.  The staff were Very attentive and the drinks were fantastic.  The view was incredible.

This drink is 15,000 baht!  that's like 475usd

Sat here for our first drink before we realized the better bar was on the other side.  Dummy, I didn't take a single photo by myself though. agh

View was incredible.

This is the bar we wanted to go to

They have a "mixologist" who would make a custom tailored drink for you!

Whiskey drink for me, thank you (and also part of the reason I was insanely hung over the next day)

Making Shaun's drink

The fixed dinner menu

A starter, not mentioned on the menu

mmmm best wine I've had in South East Asia

After dinner we went Maggie Choo's, a super cool bar set up in an old bank vault.  It was pretty late, so we only had time for one drink, but it was fun.  We did shots also.

We decided to take a leisurely hour stroll back to the hotel and came across this "truck bar" lol.  I told Shaun not to drink their gin and only to order beer, but he didn't listen.  Fortunately, he still has his eye sight today.  This truck was operated by a lesbian chick and her crazy girlfriend was obsessed with me.  I'm pretty sure Shaun was really uncomfortable because he drank a Lot of gin while we were there haha

I think we made our way back around 4am.  Incredible night :)

Side note:  But I'm such a rookie:  vodka, whiskey, red wine, more whiskey, shots of I don't know what, and then beer... lead to a decent sized hangover the next morning hahaha idiot.
