Travel to Phuket March 1

We got up this morning, had breakfast and headed to the airport to catch our flight to Phuket, one of the islands off the West coast of Thailand.  It was difficult to choose between east and west coast of Thailand, but we picked this side because it seems like most people go here and because Karen and Andrew are in Phuket also!!

The flights were really cheap, but next time I'll book a ticket that includes baggage because Air Asia is so picky about bags, it's a bit stressful.  From the hotel to the airport for 45 minutes cost us 300 baht in a taxi ($9usd), not too bad!

Air Asia actually didn't notice my bag, they only made us check Shaun's, yay!  Just saved $30usd.

Short flight, no food and we arrived in Phuket.  It's a small airport, but you walk out and it's really easy to catch a shared mini van to drop you off directly at your hotel.  It was 150 baht per person vs like 800 baht for a private taxi.  I don't think Shaun was too happy with my transportation choice as we squeezed into a van with 8 other people.  The ride from the airport to Patong was about an hour through the mountains.

Patong is the major party area on the island.  I wanted to stay here because we have to see the crazy night life people talk about, right?  We also booked a party hostel, Bodega.  I was really nervous about it, because I've heard bad stories about party hostels (people climbing in the wrong beds, people having sex in the shared dorms, drunk people waking you up all the time), but this place was pretty great!  Linnea is 19 and from Sweeden, it's her first time traveling alone.  Sara and Stephen are best friends from Canada out traveling for a while, I can't remember how long.

We tried to make it to the beach for sunset.  We did get to see these psycho guys doing paragliding from the beach.  The guys working wouldn't even strap in, they'd just take off from the shore and climb into the ropes.

The little glimpse of sunlight

We went back to the hostel to shower and change, then make it downstairs for free vodka from 7-8 or something.  Shaun and I got into a few drinking games and I'll be honest, I don't remember much.  I lost a game at one point and had to chug a giant bucket of booze.  The night was over then.

Drinking games

Patong Beach:  Hookers line the roads and late at night, literally drag men home with them.  Some of the "women" are very clearly dudes, but I'm guessing when some people are drunk, they don't notice... or maybe just don't care

At some point we stumbled to a night market and Linnea and I got food.  Then I snuck off without telling Shaun and went to bed... at like 10pm lol oops.

I prob took the least photo's this day than any day of my trip.  Blog failure.
